1. Arizona historically was part of Alta California located in New
Spain and became part of independent Mexico in 1821. After Mexico was defeated
most of its territory seceded to the US territory in 1848 while the
southernmost part of the city was acquired in 1853.
2. The southern part of Arizona experiences desert type of climate
where summers are very hot while winters are mild. Northern Arizona witnesses a
moderate type of temperatures with significant snowfalls during winter. North
Arizona is largely dominated by pine forest, douglas fir, spruce, large
canyons, and mountains.
3. It got its name from the Spanish name- Arizonac that has been
derived from O’odham word – ali sonak that means small spring.
4. From 1910 to 1920 during the Mexican Revolution, Arizona fought
several battles in the Mexican towns. During the war, Arizonians were enlisted
for the armies fighting against Mexicans. The first battle was won by the
Mexicans and the latter by the Americans.
5. Arizona is home to the Phoenix Art Museum which is Southwest’s
largest collection of international visual-art and displays from different
